Interview

Condition: Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP)

1. What is your profession and why did you decide to choose this field?

I am an artist and illustrator. You might think that's a strange career path for a person who is going permanently blind, but it's truly my passion and I wasn't going to let my diagnosis stop me from pursuing it.

2. What is the most rewarding thing about what you do?

I often hear people say, "Your artwork makes me smile", and that's truly the most rewarding part about what I do. While I find the art itself very rewarding, it's knowing that my work has a positive emotional impact on people that I love most.

3. What is your advice to all the other VIP around the world who don't believe they can be successful in the area of their interest because of their disability?

That's easy: Just do it! Instead of listing all the reasons why something might not work, just try it and see what happens. Don't be focused on perfection, or wait for the "right moment" to come along. If you do that, you'll never start!
